PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a preventive and treating agent for hypertension capable of making ferulic acid exist in blood for a long time, suppressing continuously the increase in blood pressure and at the same time improving hypertension through administration, and useful as a food since it has also an improved taste free from bitterness, or the like, characteristic to ferulic acid. SOLUTION: This preventive and treating agent for hypertension comprises a compound of formula (1) or (2) (wherein, R<1> and R<2> are same to or different from each other, and they are each H, an alkyl, an alkenyl, a cyclic alkyl, a cyclic alkenyl, an alkoxyalkyl, an aryl, an alkylaryl, an aralkyl or an acyl; R<3> is hydroxy, an ester bond residue or an amide bond residue; and R<4> is an ester bond residue or an amide bond residue) (ferulic acid is excluded) or its pharmaceutically permissible salt.
