PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type image display device in which the kind of a concave lens can easily and surely be identified by visual observation even when the concave lens is covered. SOLUTION: The image display device has a screen 25, an image forming means 3 to form an image, the concave lens L4, and a lens unit 1 placed corresponding to the concave lens L4. The image display device is further provided with a projection means 1 that magnifies the image formed by the image forming means 3 and projects it to the screen 25, a liquid enclosing means 4 to enclose a cooling liquid 11 of cooling the image forming means 3 by connecting the image forming means 3 with the projection means 1, and a concave lens pressing means 9 that presses the concave lens L4 against the liquid enclosing means 4 and has a positioning hole 200 for the lens unit 1. The positioning hole 200 in the concave lens pressing means 9 is formed at a position corresponding to the end of the concave lens L4. A kind display part 300 to indicate the kind of the concave lens L4 is provided at the end of the concave lens L4.
