PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inexpensive electrical contact material for d.c. which can be used for high-frequency opening and closing, or can deal with the requirement for a long service life, and to provide an electrical contact. SOLUTION: The electrical contact material is obtained fundamentally by subjecting an Ag alloy containing, by weight, 1.0 to 7.0% Mg to internal oxidation. Alternatively, there are various performance forms; that an alloy having a composition obtained by adding 0.001 to 0.2% of one or more kinds of metals seiected from Fe, Ni and Co having magnetism to an Ag alloy containing 1.0 to 7.0% Mg is subjected to internal oxidation; that an alloy having a composition obtained by adding 0.01 to 5.0% of one or more kinds of metals selected from In, Li, Zu, Ga, Sn and Tl to an Ag alloy containing 1.0 to 7.0% Mg is subjected to internal oxidation; and that an alloy having a composition obtained by adding 0.01 to 5% of one or more kinds of metals selected from In, Li, Zu, Ga, Sn and Tl to an Ag alloy containing 1.0 to 7.0% Mg, and further adding 0.001 to 0.2% of one or more kinds of metal selected from Fe, Ni and Co thereto is subjected to internal oxidation.
