Continuously welding thermoplastic sheet - using revolving - transparent disc and focussed light beam

A continuous welding apparatus for thermoplastic sheet comprises a revolving transparent disc, pref. of quartz glass, to convey the overlapped sheet edges above a light source and beneath a pressure roller. The light beam passes through the disc and produces heat at its focal point, under the roller, thus welding the sheets. The apparatus is simple and economic and does not risk damaging the sheet by direct hot contact.
