<p>Leather or skin is water-proofed by treatment with an organic solvent solution of the addition product of 1-4 mol of ethylene oxide and 1 mol of a C12-20 saturated branched chain alcohol obtained by the oxo or Guerbet reaction, e.g. 2-octyl-dodecyl-1-alcohol, 2-hexyldecyl-1-alcohol, or isotridecyl-1-alcohol. A 10% solution in a mixture of isopropanol and petrol may be employed. The solution may also contain a silicone oil or wax, a condensate of aluminium alcoholate and an acid phosphoric acid ester of a high molecular weight organic hydroxy compound, or the monooleyl ester of citric acid.</p> |
