PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an effect of detection of the presence or absence of a development cartridge and cost reduction by detecting sequential residual amounts during initialization, and detecting the presence or absence of the development cartridge loaded into each station of a rotary unit during the initialization. SOLUTION: The image forming device includes a developing bias generating means 1 to generate a developing bias, a developing bias application means 2 which applies a voltage generated by the developing bias generating means to a developing roller in the development cartridge, an electrostatic capacitance detecting means 3 which detects the electrostatic capacitance between a detection electrode and the developing roller, and a toner residual amount detecting means 4 which detects the amount of toner of the development cartridge on the basis of a result of the comparison amplification between the developing bias generating means and the electrostatic capacitance detecting means. The presence or absence of each development cartridge is detected also during the initialization by carrying out sequential residual amount detection during the initialization. |
