PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of an OCB liquid crystal mode having high contrast, wherein light leakage causing the reduction of contrast is reduced. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with two substrates (111, 134), two electrodes (115, 133) disposed between the substrates (111, 134), a liquid crystal layer (120) disposed between the electrodes (115, 133) and having a retardation value when black display is performed and phase difference layers (116, 132) between the substrates (111, 134) and the liquid crystal layer (120). When the voltage corresponding to the black display is applied between the electrodes (115, 133), the retardation value of the liquid crystal layer (120) and the sum total of the retardation values of the phase difference layers (116, 132) become to nearly 0 for the light made incident in the substrate (134). |
