PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring instrument capable of improving the appearance of a display panel in the measuring instrument mounted on a various kinds of vehicles such as motorcycle and automobile. SOLUTION: This measuring instrument is provided with a pointer 4, which is turned around the axis by means of a rotary shaft 2 in a driving device 3, and a display panel 5 having a base board 504 formed of a translucent material. On the front face of the base board 504, a translucent gradation display part G constructed of a dot pattern varied in density along the predetermined direction is arranged, and a lining layer 505 matching the gradation display part G is arranged on the back face of the base board 504. Thereby, the gradation display part G can be illuminated with a clear color, and consequently, a coloring property is improved and an appearance of the display panel 5 can be improved.
