1,084,804. Tubular haat exchangers. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. June 26, 1964 [March 29, 1963], No. 12676/63. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises a casing 14 containing a bundle of tubes 16 extending vertically between an upper outlet header 20 and a lower inlet header 18, said bundle being suspended from the upper end of the casing by a grid-iron arrangement 28 consisting of a rod 30 of a material of high coefficient of expansion, e.g. stainless steel, and a cylinder 32 of a material of low coefficient of expansion, e.g. Invar. Relative expansion of these elements under operating conditions compensates for thermal expansion of the casing 14 to relieve the headers of stress. Expansion loops (not shown) may be included in the lower ends of the tubes 16 and the headers may be provided with flexible seals (not shown). In Fig. 4 (not shown) an arrangement using 5 expansio members supports the tubes on a grid (46) depending from the lower end of the outermost member. |
