PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power unit which has a small size and the output of which can be controlled easily. SOLUTION: This power unit is provided with a generator 1, using a permanent magnet in its rotor, a full-wave rectifying circuit 7 which performs full- wave rectification on the output of the generator 1, a switching circuit 8 for voltage control which short-circuits/liberates both poles of the rectifying circuit 7. The unit is also provided with a smoothing circuit 9, which smoothes the DC output of the rectifying circuit 7, a voltage sensor 10 which detects the voltage of the smoothed output of the smoothing circuit 9, and a polarity switching circuit 3 which diagonally connects the positive and negative poles of the smoothing circuit 9 to terminals T1 and T2 for load across each other. In addition, the unit is also provided with a control circuit 4 which controls the opening/closing of the switching circuit 8, so that the voltage detected by means of the sensor 10 becomes a desired set voltage, and at the same time, inverts the polarities appearing on the terminals T1 and T2, by controlling the polarity switching circuit 3.
