PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for an aqueous coating material which is easily cured regardless of the coating environment. SOLUTION: This resin composition contains (I) a maleimide-group-containing copolymer prepared by copolymerizing (a) a maleimide-group-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer and (b) another ethylenically unsaturated monomer, (II) a carbonyl group-containing copolymer prepared by copolymerizing (c) a carbonyl group-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer and (d) another ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and (III) a compound having at least two same or different groups selected from among hydrazide, semicarbazide, and hydrazone groups.
