A component (2) is arranged as a coding means on a circuit carrier in order to code an electric module. Said component comprises a base body (26) made of metal and has a coding (25) for identifying the module fitted with said component, whereby the component (2) can be coded before it is disposed on the circuit carrier (1) or in a position in which it is arranged on the circuit carrier (1) prior thereto.
