A gas sensor comprises a housing (1) with a sealing packing (3) holding a ceramic sensor body (2) having a coating (4) made from electrically insulating material. An Independent claim is also included for the production of a gas sensor. Preferred Features: The sensor body is arranged in a measuring gas chamber which is subjected to measuring gas. The chamber is separated from the region facing away from the chamber by the sealing packing in a gas-tight manner. The sealing packing comprises a boron nitride layer or film extending across the longitudinal direction of the sensor body. A sealing metallic layer (5) is formed on the electrically insulating material coating.
