Device for forming air passages in insulated and rear-ventilated brickwork made of individual bricks comprises an element (1) inserted as a joint replacement to form openings in the wall plane of the brickwork. The element is U-shaped with arms (2) for upper and lower joint definition and for holding the brickwork and has a bar (5) running parallel to the adjacent brick (6). The brick inserted between the arms forms a further opening demarcation and a defined joint via boundary elements (7) on the arms.
