PURPOSE: A microwave oven having a sterilizing and drying device and the control method are provided to improve the functional ability of a microwave oven by performing ultraviolet sterilization of using a sterilizing lamp and superheat drying of using a heater. CONSTITUTION: A microwave oven having a sterilizing and drying device comprises a control unit equipped with a program of generating a control signal so as to dry the inside of a cooking chamber, a sterilizing relay switch of switching on a sterilizing relay according to the control signal of the control unit, a stabilizer(203) of stabilizing the voltage supplied through a first safety switch according to the on-state of the sterilizing relay switch, and a sterilizing lamp and glow lamp(205) of generating ultraviolet rays switched on through the voltage input through the stabilizer and of sterilizing the inside of the cooking chamber by the ultraviolet rays. The microwave oven having a sterilizing and drying device includes a temperature switch(301) of switching according to the internal temperature of the cooking chamber connected to an output terminal of the sterilizing relay switch, a heater(303) of receiving predetermined voltage supplied through the sterilizing relay switch and generating superheat connected to an output terminal of the temperature switch, and a motor(305) of blowing superheat of the heater to the inside of the cooking chamber.
