A system and method for setting various acoustic and visual parameters for improving the reproduction of surround and visual images. The system may provide a hand-held device (27) that operates the main surround sound unit (1) and/or the display device (131). The hand-held device (27) may be used to initiate the set-up procedure and send a command to generate the test signals (13, 21-26, 128, 129) from an output device (135) in a display device (131) and/or an individual speaker and/or a group of speakers (15-20, 120-127). The sensor or group of sensors in the hand-held device (27) may then detect the test signal(s). The hand-held device may then process the signal, determine the adjustment which needs to be made, and send the appropriate adjustment command to the main surround sound unit (1) and/or the display device (131). |
