PURPOSE: A computer and character inputting method is provided to easily change character input modes irrespective of a current character input mode so that it can enhance a work efficiency. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of a user setting a plurality of character input modes at a character input setting module of a controller(S20), the controller checking if a character mode key is double-clicked while a document is being made out(S30), in a case that the character mode key is not double-clicked, the controller generating a general scan code and outputting a general character(S31, S32), in a case that the character mode key is double-clicked, the controller checking if a Caps Lock key or a Hangul-English conversion key is pushed(S40), in a case that both the keys are not pushed, the controller transmitting a scan code corresponding to a basic character input mode to a keyboard controller and then the keyboard controller outputting characters to the basic character input mode irrespective of a prior character input mode(S41), in a case that the Caps Lock key is pushed, the controller transmitting a corresponding scan code to the keyboard controller and the keyboard controller outputting the characters corresponding to the third character mode, for example, a capitalized English character set(S50, S51, S52), in a case that the Hangul-English conversion key is pushed, the controller transmitting a corresponding scan code to the keyboard controller and the keyboard controller outputting the characters corresponding to the second character mode, for example, a Hangul character set(S53, S54).
