PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the use efficiency of a page memory by not allowing image formation data transfer to occupy all page memories during image formation and reserving part of the page memories for input of a read picture. SOLUTION: Read pictures of different colors inputted from a scanner 300 are temporarily stored in page memories 700 and are sent to a printer control part 400 from them for forming an image. Memories required for continuous transfer of page pictures to a printer are defined as memories only for image formation and are set as page memories for holding the pertinent pictures, and other page memories are used for input of scanner read pictures. Read pictures completely inputted in the unit of documents are transferred from page memories to an HDD 500 and stored therein, and a space is reserved to prepare for the next input. Pictures which do not exist in the page memories at the time of forming an image are read from the HDD and are used. This method is effective in the case of image formation for double pages.
