PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor which prevents an image from looking unnatural in a switched boundary part due to switching of image processing. SOLUTION: The image processor which subjects inputted image data to prescribed processing and outputs the result is provided with a gray pixel detection part 323b and a gray pattern matching part 323h which detect muddle- density (gray) areas of the image represented by the picture data, a gray expansion part 323i which performs expansion processing of image data detected by the gray pattern matching part 323h, and a discrimination part 323m which detects the results of expansion processing in the gray expansion part 323i as non-character edge areas of the image, and areas expanded in the gray expansion part 323i are removed from the object of character discrimination. As a result, processing is switched by only middle-density areas, and areas having thick lines can be subjected to the same image processing independently of line width, and the image is prevented from looking unnatural in the switched boundary part due to switching of image processing.
