PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical disk drive that changes the criteria to switch from the thread transfer to the tracking transfer modes depending on recording or reproducing. SOLUTION: This optical magnetic disk drive 10 has an optical pickup 18 which includes a light source for recording and/or reproducing information on a magneto-optical disk 51, an objective lens to focus the light from the light source on a magneto-optical disk 51, and a transfer mechanism to transfer the objective lens horizontally to a magneto-optical disk 51, and also a transfer means 15 and 21 to transfer the optical pickup 18 horizontally to a magneto- optical disk 51. Further, it has a control means 26, when changing the light irradiated position on the magneto-optical disk 51, to change by using the transfer mechanism or the transfer means 15 and 21 depending on the different criteria for recording and reproducing.
