PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable line image processor which has the circuit scale made small-sized and simple to reduce the cost and realizes quick operation. SOLUTION: The variable line image processor is provided with a first quantizing means (error propagation part) 404a which quantizes the first line, a second quantizing means (error propagation part) 404b which quantizes the second line, a selector 406 which selects one of error data 405a generated in the first quantizing means 404a and error data 405b generated in the second quantizing means 404b, a control means (control part 412) which detects the number of lines to be processed on the basis of multilevel image effective signals 411a and 411b to control the selector 406, and an error data storage memory 408 for storage of error data.
