The rotor (10) is made on a core (14) carrying an electrical winding (16) formed from conductors (18) which are coated with electrically insulating material and wrapped in a layer of fixing material. The fixing material is heated by an external induction coil (40) and allowed to cool. The core is pre-heated before this to reduce temperature gradients in the winding.
