The present invention refers to applying the protective metal coatings on cast iron and steel products by plunging them into the melt of aluminum, zinc and their alloys. The present invention provides the increasing of apparatus work reliability due to decreasing the melt volume and the surface square, providing the additional melt heating from the inside. Apparatus for applying the protective metal coatings on cast iron and steel products comprises tank 2 filled with aluminum or zinc or their alloy melt 1 and made from the material inert to the said melt 1 or with the coating material inert to the said melt 1. Inside the tank 2 in the melt 1 there is, at least, one bulk element 3 made from the material inert to the melt or with the coating material inert to the melt.
