Using a suitable interferometer, e.g. Michel type, electromagnetic microwaves are beamed on the barrel mouth. From their reflection from the face of the projectile the speed of the projectile together with unavoidable spurious contents inherent in the propagation of the waves. After digitalizing from the interferometer signal using a special Fourier transform calculation and special determination of an average value the velocity characteristic of the projectile is derived. From this by integration or differentiation characteristic curves are obtained for velocity and acceleration.
