The chair has an armrest on either side which is pivoted about a vertical pivot axis (6) against the force of a spring. Each armrest has a base plate (4) with a bearing opening for fitting to the vertical pivot axis, the spring provided as a coil spring (9) attached to the armrest at one end and at the other end to a retaining pin (8), attached to the armrest support (2) at a distance from the pivot axis and displaced along a guide slot (7) concentric to the pivot axis.
