The protective shrouding is for a machine tool, and especially a drill with a rotating spindle (1) to take the workpiece or tool chuck (2). The shrouding is a transparent panel (12), which moves along a guide along the spindle axis between a shrouding position, and an open position to give access to the tool or chuck. The sliding panel bears against a fixed transparent protective panel (6), at a machine section (4), with a telescopic sliding movement between them. The panel surfaces are coated against scratching by chips and obscurity through drilling fluids, with a layer containing nano particles.
