SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR EXTENDING AN ENTERPRISE NETWORK TO MOBILE DEVICES

An extendible mobile computing system is introduced to extend usage and availability of one or more enterprise application systems to mobile workers using mobile computing devices. A common mobile data model is created that describes the data to be shared between the mobile devices and the enterprise application systems. The mobile computing system is then used to create and support custom software programs for the handheld computing devices which reference the mobile data model. The mobile computing system is also used to create and support custom software programs which control the transfer of data directly with the enterprise application systems, also referencing the mobile data model. The mobile computing system manages, deploys, and services the custom software programs on both the mobile devices and the back-end, asynchronously transferring information between them based on interactions with the mobile users and processing rules described at the middle-tier.
