摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carborane supercluster of which the structural unit is a carborane (C2 B10 H12 ) which is a cluster. SOLUTION: The carborane supercluster, represented by the molecular formula: C2m B10m H12m-x (wherein x is a positive integer; and m is an integer of 2 or higher), is prepared by successively reacting the carborane by using a reaction chamber 1, has carborane backbones as structural units connected to each other and having an elemental composition and a molecular structure controlled at the atomic level, and is useful as a heat-resistant flame-resistant material, a chemical resistant material, a semiconductor material, a neutron scavenger used in the atomic power industry, a medicine used in the boron neutron scavenging therapy (a therapy utilizingα-rays generated by the neutron scavenging of boron), or an optical material or as an intermediate for preparing these materials.
