PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a coolant mixed with chips or the like from entering the guide portion of a pawl member or the like from a clearance between the pawl member and its peripheral members in a chuck device in which a part of the pawl member is made to project in the axial direction from a chuck body. SOLUTION: The pawl member 25 is composed of a retaining portion 26 inside the chuck body 10, a pawl portion 28 outside the chuck body and a neck portion 30 existing between both the above portions and crossing the opening end potion of the chuck body. A penetration hole 43a having a shape and a length permitting the movement of the neck portion having penetrated is also used to cover the opening end portion with a formed cover 43. Furthermore, a movement space 43c between the neck portion 30 and the peripheral portion of the penetration hole 43a is sealed with a sealing member 47 mounted on each neck portion 30.
