PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a book, which is placed on a shelf board in such a manner that a front cover points forward, from slipping down from the shelf board. SOLUTION: A recessed groove 8, which points in a horizontal direction, is provided ahead of a front end of a backplate 7 above a shelf board 6 of a bookshelf 1, a supporting member 9, whose top surface has a recessed streak 10 pointing in the horizontal direction, is fitted into the recessed groove 8, and a back edge of a lower end of a book B placed so that a surface can point forward is supported by the recessed streak 10.
