A data transmission method and system (10) for circuit switched and other services that can be employed in TDMA-based systems, and that supports the use of one or several types of modulation in addition to a "normal" modulation on a radio interface (fig. 4). An additional modulation/channel coding may be used in the downlink transmission (14 and 12), while the normal modulation/channel coding may be used in the uplink transmissions (12 and 14), under a variety of different conditions (Fig. 1).
