CATALYST FOR MANUFACTURING SYNTHETIC GAS AND METHOD FOR CONVERTING BIOMASS TO SYNTHETIC GAS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the formation of tar or forming no tar at all in manufacturing synthetic gas by the gasification of biomass. SOLUTION: A catalyst for manufacturing the synthetic gas from biomass is obtained by supporting rhodium, ruthenium, palladium or platinum on the surface of a cerium oxide carrier as a catalytic metal. The method for converting the biomass to the synthetic gas using this catalyst is also disclosed.
