PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an area separation method that can easily conduct area separation at a high speed. SOLUTION: The area separation method includes a division step of dividing a read image into unit sections, each comprising pixel blocks where a prescribed number of pixels are laid out along with a prescribed direction, such as a direction (a), a comparison step of comparing changing tendencies of R, G, B data by each unit section, and a decision step of deciding the area of each unit section on the basis of the comparison result in the change tendencies to conduct area separation. When the unit section comprises a plurality of pixels, the prescribed direction is taken in a pixel adjacent direction (may be a plurality of directions), and when the unit section comprises one pixel, the prescribed direction may be taken in an opposed direction of two sets of opposed boundaries. The changing tendency indicates how much change exists in the entire unit sections, in the manner of how each of data between adjacent pixels changes are checked along the prescribed direction. |
