PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for machining a work with which machining time can be shortened by shortening changing time of tools and a machining cost for the work can be reduced. SOLUTION: The method includes a step S71 to specify a present tool, steps S73, S74 to index the present tool, to move it to the work side and to machine the work, a step S72 to specify a next tool, a step 77 to index the next tool at a prescribed position, a step S79 to wait for execution of an NC program after completion of the machining of the work by the present tool, a step S80 to decide whether or not movement permission exists about movement of the next tool to the work simultaneously with retreat movement of the present tool from the work, steps S82, S85 to move the next tool to the work simultaneously with the retreat movement of the current tool from the work when the movement permission exists and a step S84 to start the machining of the work by the next tool.
