In a method of making a laminate having an outer metal layer 2 glued to a layer 1 of veneer, plywood, particle board, wallboard or like wood material, the surface of the metal layer to face the plywood &c. surface is embossed, or otherwise moulded or stamped to present a regular or irregular pattern in relief and the two layers pressed together so that the embossing or like on the surface of the metal sheet penetrates the plywood layer causing a permanent deformation of its surface. In one method the glue may be of the phenol, resorcinol or carbamide kind and the patterned metal surface may be coated with casein latex. Alternatively the metal and plywood or like facing surfaces are coated with glue of the neoprene kind. Also epoxy resin glue may be used. The plywood or like layer may have metal layers on both sides. Examples are described</p> |
