PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem on excess load of vacuum stress in thinning a glass panel, by applying compression stress to the glass panel for a color cathode-ray tube through chemical reinforcement method, to solve the problem on damage and thermal stress generated in the manufacturing of the cathode-ray tube, and further to provide the sufficient X-ray shielding performance. SOLUTION: In this glass panel for the color cathode-ray tube, a linear absorption coefficient of X-ray of the wavelength 0.06 nm is 30-38 cm<-1> , and a layer having the compression stress of 70 MPa or higher is formed by a chemical reinforcement method, on at least the minor axis end part and/or the major axis end part of an outer surface of a face part, and a central part of an inner surface of the face part.
