PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network technology for home appliances with which a plurality of home appliances of a plurality of types can be individually managed and remotely controlled for each user. SOLUTION: A home terminal 15 sends picture data for the selection of home appliances in response to a call incoming to a portable telephone 51 for remote control and starts radio communication with the communication apparatus 16 of a relevant home appliance 1x corresponding to a home appliance select signal from the portable telephone. Then, an authentication procedure is performed by using an authentication code peculiar for the relevant home appliance registered in the present terminal, and when the authentication is established, communication between an incoming telephone call and the communication apparatus is relayed. Thus, when a user is to perform remote control from a destination of visit with a portable telephone, for example, even when home appliances of the same type are installed in a single home (when a plurality of air conditioners of the same type are installed in respective rooms, for example), only one of them can be designated and remotely controlled.
