PURPOSE: A satellite antenna and method for operating the same is provided to maintain superior receiving sensitivity of the antenna by selecting the radio receiver directed toward a satellite through the use of a direction sensor. CONSTITUTION: A satellite antenna comprises a radio receiver unit(100) having a plurality of radio receivers for receiving radio signals from a satellite; a switch unit(400) for selecting the radio receiver directed toward the satellite, from among the radio receivers; a control unit(300) connected to the switch unit, and which determines the radio receiver directed toward the satellite by using the direction of the satellite and direction of the moving object, and allowing the switch unit to select the radio receiver directed toward the satellite; and a direction sensor unit(200) connected to the control unit, and which determines direction of the moving object and transmits the determined direction to the control unit. A method for operating a satellite antenna, comprises a first step of inputting direction of a satellite; a second step of permitting a direction sensor unit to determine direction of a moving object; a third step of permitting a control unit to determine the radio receiver directed toward the satellite; a fourth step of transmitting a radio receiver selection signal to a switch unit; and a fifth step of permitting the switch unit to select the radio receiver directed toward the satellite.
