The present invention relates to a process of preparing substituted acroleins by the aldolisation reaction of aldehydes, in the presence of a water-soluble alkaline aldolisation catalyst, followed by dehydration which consists of the aldolisation or the dehydration of an aldehyde or of an aldehyde mixture, in order to form at least a substituted acrolein and water, then a reaction mixture containing aldehyde or unreacted aldehyde, water, aldolisation catalyst and at least a substituted acrolein is recovered from the aldolisation/dehydration stage, said reaction mixture being distilled in order to separate a peak fraction containing aldehyde or unreacted aldehydes and water and a distillation still fraction containing the respective aldolisation catalyst and at least a substituted acrolein. |
