PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the technique of inputting characters to a terminal. SOLUTION: A first input part 22 provided with a plurality of row keys specifying a row in the Japanese syllabary chart is arranged on the front surface of a portable terminal and a second input part 20 provided with a plurality of column keys specifying a column in the Japanese syllabary chart is arranged on the side face. A specifying part specifies a KANA (Japanese syllabary) character by the combination of the row inputted from the first input part 22 and the column inputted from the second input part 20.
