PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a recognition ratio by adequately segmenting a character printed on a license plate. SOLUTION: A vehicle number recognition device for performing recognition of the character by segmenting the character from a character region existing in a picked up image of a picked up license plate includes a plate dictionary 15 for housing an existing region of the character region corresponding to a type of the license plate, and a letter segmenting part 16 for specifying the type of the license plate from a feature amount of the license plate obtained from the picked up image of the license plate, obtaining the character region corresponding to the type of the license plate from the plate dictionary, and performing a segmentation process of the character to be recognized. Therefore, the character is adequately segmented from the character region corresponding to the type of the license plate, and character data with a high recognition ratio can be acquired. |
