PURPOSE: A control method and an apparatus for charging a battery are provided to supply continuously the power to a main body by installing a battery charge portion within a main body and switching an external power source and a battery power source to each other. CONSTITUTION: An AC/DC conversion portion(110) converts an inputted AC voltage to a predetermined level of DC voltage. A micro computer(121) compares a supplied voltage with a reference voltage in order to determine whether a terminal voltage is an external voltage or a discharged voltage of a charging battery. The micro computer(121) controls a charging operation according to the decided result. A charge control portion(122) connects or disconnects the charging battery with a charging current supply path according to the control operation of the micro computer(121). A full charge sense portion(123) compares the ground potential with the reference voltage to output a full charge signal to the micro computer(121).
