A framing member 13 for a suspended ceiling is of inverted T-section with a cut out 55 in the vertical flange 23 which extends down to a position adjacent to the horizontal flanges 17, 19, the lower edge 57 of the cut out being formed with a single notch 59 intermediate its ends whereby any buckling due to excessive thermal expansion of the member 13 is confined to downward bending of the horizontal flanges 17, 19 in the area below the cut out 55, forming an apex opposite the notch 59. The framing member 13 may be connected in alignment with an adjacent framing member 21 by a splicing plate 29 having integral clips 65, 67, 69, 71, 73 which engage key-hole shaped slots 75, 77, 79, 81, 83 respectively, in the framing members 13, 21, the slots 75, 77 being elongated to allow relative sliding movement of the clips therein when buckling of the flanges below the cut out 55 takes place. The splicing plate 29 prevents upward buckling of the flanges 17, 19 in the area beneath the cut out 55. Transverse framing members 31, 33 Fig. 1 (not shown) are connected to the main members 13, 21, or to the splicing plate 55 by means of tabs on the ends of the transverse members engaging pairs of slots 51, 53; 54, 56 or 50, 52, respectively, constructed in accordance with the invention described and claimed in Specification 1,120,677. |
