<p>The present invention concerns a flocculant derived from a vegetable source and the use of the flocculant in a method for separation of suspended particles and colloidal substances from an aqueous liquid. The method comprises treating an aqueous liquid containing aggregates of suspended solid particles or colloids, coagulant, and particulate carrier with a flocculant and then separating the resulting flocs from the aqueous liquid. In the method, environment-friendly mucilage derived from a vegetable source is applied as the flocculant, which may be easily degraded in the nature and digested by man and other organisms without any risk of health hazard.</p> |
