A process for treating a nitrogen compound containing water, which comprises introducing a nitrogen-containing waste water to an adsorption vessel packed with zeolite, to allow the zeolite to adsorb the nitrogen component alone, and then introducing a solution containing hydrobromous acid or hydrochlorous acid to the adsorption vessel, to decompose and remove the nitrogen component adsorbed on the zeolite by the action of the hydrobromous acid or hydrochlorous acid; and an apparatus for practicing the process. The process can be used for treating a nitrogen compound in a waste water, which is a causative substance for eutrophication of a lake or the like, in high speed without the use of an unstable biological treatment.
|
