A steering control for a vehicle includes a servo control which overlays the manual steering control. An actuator drive provides a translational drive on the recirculating ball drive of the manual steering and enables a drive control to overlay small steering corrections. The actuator is powered by an electric motor and comprises a mechanical gearing, e.g. a trapezoidal drive, or a hydraulic drive.
