Carrier (I) comprising a geometrical array of surfaces for the samples in a layout which is compatible for data storage systems, is new. The positions and substances are uniquely identified at each location. Blank spaces are between each occupied space, in the sequences. There is a position discrimination of the spaces and/or adjacent or subsequent tracks. Carrier (1), to present a chemical or biochemical substance for analysis, has a geometrical array of surfaces (2) for the samples in a layout which is compatible for data storage systems e.g. compact disks (CD), digital versatile disks (DVD), magnetic storage and barcodes. The positions and substances are uniquely identified at each location. Blank spaces are between each occupied space, in the sequences. There is a position discrimination of the spaces and/or adjacent or subsequent tracks (4) e.g. positive/negative controls and concentration gradients.
