The invention relates to a detection method for identifying hydrolases, based on the optical detection of released acetic acid. The inventive method is particularly suitable for High Throughput Screening (HTS) of prokaryotic or eucaryotic samples. The invention also relates to test kits to implement the above method; a method for the isolation of hydrolases having a modified property profile, for example improved enantioselectivity, by using said detection method The invention also relates to hydrolases isolated by means of said method.
