PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a projector device which uses a reflection type LCD small-sized by shortening the back focus of a projection lens of the device and thus making the projection lens small-sized. SOLUTION: A PBS 3 polarizes a source light beam into s-polarized light and a color switch 5 polarizes infrared light into p-polarized light; and green and blue light beams are outputted as the s-polarized light and the p-polarized light beam is transmitted through a PBS 6 to impinge on a reflection type LCD 7 and then modulated and reflected there to become an s-polarized red video light beam, which is reflected by the PBS 6 and made incident on the projection lens 11. The s-polarized light beam from the color switch is reflected by the PBS 6 and while the green light beam is transmitted through a dichroic mirror(DM) 8, the blue light beam is reflected; and the green light beam is made incident on a reflection type LCD 9 and then modulated and reflected there to become a p-polarized green video light beam, which is transmitted through the DM and PBS 6 to impinge on the projection lens. The blue light beam reflected by the DM is made incident on a reflection type LCD 10 and then modulated and reflected to become a p-polarized blue video light beam, which is reflected by the DM, transmitted through the PBS 6, and projected on a screen by the projection lens together with the red and green video light beams.
