PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for an optical material hardly undergoing photodeterioration, having a small linear expansion coefficient and exhibiting a high optical transparency, an optical material, its manufacturing method, and a liquid crystal display device and a light-emitting diode each obtained using the same. SOLUTION: The composition for an optical material comprises as essential ingredients (A) an organic compound bearing in one molecule at least two carbon-carbon double bonds reactive with an SiH group, (B) a silicon compound bearing in one molecule at least two SiH groups, (C) a hydrosilylation catalyst, (D) a compound bearing in one molecule at least two hydrolyzable groups bonded to a metal atom and/or a semi-metal atom, and/or a partial condensate thereof, and (E) water and/or a water-generating compound.
